SCENE STUDY
Scene Study follows an ongoing four-week curriculum combining traditional scene study with practical filmmaking experience. Every other week focuses entirely on the craft of acting, while alternating weeks introduce production preparation, a simulated film set, and lessons on working in the industry.
WEEK ONE
Scene study
Actors perform prepared scenes and receive individual direction from Dustin, exploring visceral connection and living truthfully.
Scenes are filmed using a multi-camera setup, allowing actors to review their performances, make adjustments, and continue developing their work over multiple weeks.
WEEK TWO
Production night
The first 45 minutes focus on preparing an upcoming ensemble film shoot. Actors and ensemble crew members work alongside Dustin to establish blocking, camera angles, equipment needs, and other production considerations.
The entire class observes the preparation involved in bringing a scene to the screen, including how decisions are made from both the actor’s and cinematographer’s perspectives.
Following a short break, actors return to their prepared scene work.
WEEK THREE
Scene study
Actors perform prepared scenes and receive individual direction from Dustin, exploring visceral connection and living truthfully.
As in Week One, scenes are captured using multiple cameras, allowing actors to review their work and continue refining their performances.
WEEK FOUR
Professional development + set simulation
Class begins with a rotating lesson covering additional skills actors need throughout their careers, from commercial acting, voiceover, self-tapes, audition technique, rehearsal, and the business of acting. These lessons are included in regular Scene Study tuition.
Actors then perform their prepared scenes in a simulated film set environment, with basic blocking and Dustin operating the camera hand-held up close. This gives actors additional practical on-set experience.
